The 1st Act: One plate of Kindness

So for my first act of kindness, I established a Dastarkhan for the hard workers of our society near Korah Stop, Walton.

I had a single dish(Biryani) made for around 50+ people with our National Sherbet, Jami Shirin. From street hawkers to peddlers all were welcome at the Dastarkhan and to my surprise everyone was willing to help set it all up rather than taking their share and leaving.

Seeing people give me blessings really helped me see that the smallest act that we do can be a drastic one for others.

The 2nd Act: The Bag of Goodness

Onwards to the second Act, I helped my Neighbor get his grocery since he recently had a knee surgery and was unable to go on his own.

Normally my neighbor and I didn't see eye to eye, with him parking in front my house gate causing me anguish every time i needed to park my car in the garage. But just as our Prophet S.A.W did with the women who was harsh to him when she fell ill, I used kindness. I went to my neighbors house to inquire about his health and asked if I could be of any help to him.

The 3rd Act: The Covid-19 Safeguard

For my third act, I distributed a Covid safeguard kit among the ‘Help” in my neighborhood.

For the kit, I put in a packet of 100 plastic gloves alongside a sanitizer, facemask and hand wash to be used whenever they went to a house of their daily work.

Given how it is imperative to save yourself and others around you especially the day laborers who have to move from one place to another throughout.

Giving back to the society in this way felt good, since majority of us have felt helpless in the face of this pandemic.

The 4th Act: The Ration Bag

My street guard had like all the day-to-day laborers felt the brunt of the pandemic. And I had been supporting him financially but given our recent interaction it wasn't enough since his eldest son had been let go from his job too. So given how Amal had challenged me for the “5 Acts of Kindness”, I decided to do more.

So starting today I bought him a week’s ration for his household so he could in return save his monthly salary which the houses on the street collectively give.” Helping others in their darkest hours may in return allow oneself to get help in need.”

The 5th Act: The Act of Brotherly Kindness

With time coming to an end for my 24 hour challenge by Amal Academy, I had to pull something out of my hat for the last act.

So here I was at 2:00 AM feeling hungry, so I ordered my some food from Food panda, and the delivery guy showed up around 3.00AM shivering in the cold with just a slim jacket to cover himself on the bike. We got to talking while my card was being charged, and I got to know that my order is his last and he had to rush it even though he was having food with his colleagues. The only reason that he rushed my order was because that maybe I was hungry after a days work myself. I felt moved and asked him to join me in having a bite, so here we were having food together sharing random thoughts on variety of topics.

Finishing off the day with 5 random acts of kindness really helped me feel good about myself and realize this one fact that “We are all together in this”
